Genre: Dark Ambient, Drone

Für “V.A. – Dark Ambient Radio Vol.2r43; stellten folgende Projekte bzw. Solokünstler (meist) exklusive Tracks zur Verfügung (chronologische Abfolge): Tholen, Inner Vision Laboratory, Arkhitektur Noir, Therradaemon (Northaunt), Aspectee, Phelios, Crepuscular, Nagual Art, Troum, Phobos & False Mirror.

http://www.myspace.com/arkhitekturnoir

http://www.myspace.com/crepuscularmusick

http://www.myspace.com/phobosdna

Fazit:

Do you say this compilation have a 'problem' about style?
As far I understand, the review says its not a 'purist' compilation. I dont understand that in a 'bad' way refering to the quality of compilation from the review, but I would like to ask :
what its 'pure dark ambient'? or better said : Whats means 'purity' concerning dark ambient music' style ?

Thinking on Northaunt and Neuntöter Der Plague' both of them are obscure and dark and ambient as hell.
And From head to toe absolute differents each one.

well, IMHO, that is relative about partipant's taste, not concerning to members's preparation towards a musical style.
If I dont like something after many views/listenings I dont care if I understand or not. I dont like, thats all. I dont understand psicoacoustical academic music but I like a lot.-

@Doomcore:
Stephen pointed out a phrase of the review which claims that the compilation is quite good, but limited to the dark-ambient genre. He said "that´s the problem". I assume that he thinks that his track has not been voted into the compilation because it is not "dark ambient" enough and something different (maybe more evolved / better?) which he calls "doombient" (which is a registered trademark and should not be misused by other bands and individuals). He also pretended not to know me although we played a concert and released a CD together.

This is my last post in this thread, I find it very unprofessional to participate in such childish flamewar.

Do you know what I missed in the whole voting process and in general in the whole anonymous thing, I missed the part when we actually discussed what we all created. I missed the part when someone tells you 'Man your track sucks big time because this, this and this...'. I mean if in such communities we don't discuss and help each other I can't imagine what pornography the mainstream music actually is.

I have no problem in hearing 'Man I didn't vote for your track because your sounds sucks or your ideas are blurry' or I have no problem in saying I didn't vote for Ah Cama-Sotz and Phelios tracks because they were boring as hell... But we actually didn't discuss these things and at some point a part of us stopped being a part of the compilation just because we were not publishing a song in it.

And yeah writing only in German sucks big time and won't make your penises longer. It is an international community here despite the domain name is .de smiley

Agree with vile. Several weeks before the voting process Doomcore suggested me to re-view the eq of my track, I did it and was for good result. smiley
So, i dont see as unproffesional to discuss this kind of things, from my view its healthy 'cause feeds the community sense.

By the way, I didn't know the registering of the name of an style of music as trademark is possible.
What is the sense of do that? There are other examples as 'doombient' registered?

Doombient is kind of Stephens label. Yes, he avoids the classification of his music as dark ambient, though he won't go so far as to cease support of this radio. It might seem peculiar to insist that ones music is only to be classified by ones own word creation -- but that might be part of the concept. (I suspect, Stephen doesn't have a band page on myspace just because myspace refused to add doombient as a style smiley ).

I won't say Stephens track isn't good. It's just minimalistic, sparsely produced. He just has another approach, i.e. conceiving a synth as a music instrument in the most classical way rather than a mere means to sound generation. If you don't have affinity to such an approach, it doesn't mean it's bad. Still it may be the right outcome that rather the more produced and polished tracks made it onto the comp. The Troum track is the exception to this rule.

I think vol. 2 possesses the right balance between identity and diversity. Remember the critics about the Megatone and Mytrip tracks on vol. 1? They may be right, they may be wrong... who can tell? Reviews are alway subjective!

As a consumer product, a CD needs to have a label on it that's consistent with what's in it. And in the case of the comp, it couln't be more honest as each of the participants is connected to DAR in some way and voted what should be on it. And that makes you part of the comp, even if your track didn't make it!

Remember: Vol.2 was an experiment with a darwinist approach: "there can be only 11". This may explain the lack of cooperation and empathy during the music production stage. It's sad to hear that Mike closed Synthetic Mind Decay shortly after the voting results where published. And I'm sure most of those who didn't make it on the comp are disappointed as well. It's somehow inhuman to implement such a harsh selection mechanism. I only hope that not too many peoples feelings are hurt to an extent where they feel excluded and turn their back on the project. Let's better accept the outcome with dignity -- regardless if your track is on the comp or not!

I belive producers need to know how to take criticism and refusal's....for example, I don't make many tracks, but even some of those tracks which I made don't get released, I receive bad feedback on them. It's all part of the process....and when something is not good in my track, I like to hear thoughts, opinions and some tips how to improve it. If mine track haven't been picked up for vol.2 I wouldn't get disapointed or jelaous, but I would definately work harder for vol.3 to have more chance to get released.

Mentenebres critic's , translation spanish-english by me, ( a bit roughly made ,but usefull ) smiley

This year have finished in a spectacular way for Thomas Mielke and the boys who are behind Dark Ambient Radio, because we had the presentation of the second volume of this compilation. Who was going to think that a small project oriented to the closer friendly was going to grow much as Dark Ambient Radio did? As some of you know, the transmitter incorporates diverse styles that would perfectly square within that style of electronic underground music like the ritual, ambient, doom (being diluted mostly of times in Drone and viceversa) and the Industrialists. One hardly can become bored of the programming because, lucky of us, dedicated people are in charge and with their sapience they demonstrate their well know how-to-do their program, a remarkable detail because they have been already several years in uninterrupted transmission.
In this sense, the second volume that we commented this occasion was conceived with the idea of the egalitarian weight, non-protagonism and uniformity of densities, except for giving continuity to the previous compilation .
After the success that meant the launching of the first volume, we noticed that Varios Artists - " Dark Ambient Radio Vol. 2" as much the direction of the transmitter as the participant projects have managed to construct a bridge between both sides of the music, that approaches who enjoy listen it and those who make it. Little by little, they
have helped to seat the pillars of a difficult, diffuse style of music, that doesn't know borders or territorial limits that others styles, an style forged by the followers themselves and also, nailed in the limb of underground by diverse situations that are horse of another color, but not destined to the failure.
By this, we can to sum up a positive future not only for the transmitter also for the style of music. Although it is certain that Dark Ambient Radio does not lock up to all the Dark Ambient and that all the Dark Ambient is not in Dark Ambient Radio, optimistically we thought that the reference is inescapable. It will be difficult that the new underground projects happen unnoticed or they do not feel attracted to work with the transmitter.
The new features in this edition include always underestimated Angel, who under the CrepusculaR name has sent more than ten most interesting productions and from remote Argentina he always looks for, and unfortunately alone, to open spaces for his music. Evoke Scurvee has changed in this occasion to give passage to Aspectee, contributing a sensational track of totally dark manufacture and whose album debut we will comment here in Mentenebre. Inner Laboratory Vision appears in this disc, after a split with is Roto Visage, offering a horrifying track. The expectations are deposited in Arkhitektur Noir and newly discovered THERRADAEMON. The remaining tracks are from projects already presents on DAR V1 and, no mood to make nice with someone, they have provided excellent tracks without neglecting the others.
I believe that continuity and commitment of those in charge of the station are solid steps in strengthening the style.
I cannot more than to applaud the attitude and shown disposition to successfully obtain information, to look for new projects, to analyze them and, more important, to give a space us in the network for those who we liked of this diffuse sonorous manifestation. I recognize the work done and the responsibilities with the future.
Happily, I congratulate myself to have my Dark Ambient Radio.
